Lessons from the Heart of Africa

Having just returned home to Los Angeles after completing three remarkable Soul Safaris in the 2024 season I’m taking a moment to reflect on the profound impact that Africa continues to have on me.

I am reminded of what I always take away from Africa year after year… that we all have a heart, a unique essence that seeks expression in life. And that what every one of us is looking for is our own hearts. ❤️

As they say, what you are looking for is actually that which is looking.

The meaning of personal power is the ability to cut through the pretence of a life that is all about protecting our hearts and go there directly, have it now, live it now. 

The illusion that everyone is seduced by is that the first order of business in life is establishing the safety to reveal our hearts, and though none of us achieve that safety we all assume that It’s the goal. Our suffering is born of the idea that we can get there if we just try harder. 

But we can never get there because to be expressed, the heart must leave the fortress. So we busy ourselves with the never-ending preparation. 

The only person who will ever have their heart is the person who realises that there is no safety, that they might as well stop preparing and go into life now, naked as they came. They might also know, or else they will find out, that the heart needs no protection, that our unapologetic essence and expression is our power. 

Typically, though, we live our lives back to front, building false images and accumulating the things we believe will allow us to have what we ultimately want. And most of us will die thinking that the rehearsal to live was the main show. 

In truth there is another way. The way we’re actually designed to live. To go for the heart first, have that to start with, lead with that. 

Being real is all we need. The most powerful person in the world is the one who holds what can’t be taken away… authenticity and integrity. People like Nelson Mandela taught us that. You find that from there your viability and abundance flow, and this is your higher source of energy.

Me and everyone who joins me on safari always comes away with a treasure trove of amazing pictures. But whatever impression those pictures give, however impressive, it’s never the real story of Africa. 

The gift of Africa is that the heart of the planet beats so hard there through the people and the animals and the land that you can’t escape your own heart. It’s pushed into your face. And to be honest, at first you don’t feel ready for it. You want to drink heavily and create drama. But when you settle down and accept it, you want to take it back like a long-lost child, and you never want to lose it again.

I don’t recall his name, but some sociology professor once said that there exists in every human being an existential angst that can only be resolved by standing on African soil. So true.❤️

To join us on safari, you must have completed at least our foundational course, Create Your Destiny, or you must complete it before you go on the safari. Familiarity with our creative development work is essential for getting the most out of the experience. 

The exceptional value of US $10,000 covers every aspect of the safari, including accommodation, meals, domestic flights, transportation, cultural tours, wildlife encounters, and various activities throughout the expedition. Please note, you will have to book your own return flight from your home destination to Johannesburg. 

When you sign up for the waiting list, you’re expressing a serious interest in joining us for this life-altering adventure. Should a spot become available, you will be promptly notified and expected to make a deposit quickly. As I reflect on the recent Soul Safaris, I am filled with immense gratitude and pride for the incredible people who joined me this year. 

Each safari is a unique experience, but this year’s journeys were truly special—not just because of the awe-inspiring landscapes, unforgettable wildlife encounters and deep work we did on ourselves, but because of the profound generosity and shared spirit of giving that emerged among our group.

During our time in Africa, we encountered the harsh realities that many communities face, particularly the ongoing struggle against poaching in Eswatini. 

While exploring the stunning Mbuluzi Game Reserve, we learned about the vital work being done by the Conservation Education Foundation. This organization is dedicated to preventing at-risk youths from turning to poaching by introducing them to the wilderness and wildlife, helping them appreciate the value of conservation.

The participants of our safaris were deeply moved by this cause, and many expressed a strong desire to contribute to this essential work. I am incredibly humbled by their generosity, as it reflects a common desire to protect the natural beauty of Africa and support those who live in harmony with it.

Your donations to the Conservation Education Foundation will make a difference. Not only will they help stop youths from becoming poachers, but they will also aid in conserving some of the last prime mountain savannah left in Africa. 

Additionally, your support will assist the local tribal community in successfully establishing their own nature reserve on the opposite side of the Mbuluzi Game Reserve, ensuring that the land and its wildlife are protected for future generations.
